Authors:

This is the first report of a standards-based examination given at a national level. Contrasting with traditional tests that assess students’ performance in relation to that of heir peers and previous test takers, the New Standards Mathematics Reference Examination shows what fourth- and eighth-grade students know and can do in relation to specified standards of performance. The authors used the information from this test administration to revise the next version of New Standards Mathematics Reference Examination.
