Teach For Armenia Evaluation Report Highlights Program’s Impact on Students and Teachers

We are excited to share the findings from the recent evaluation of Teach For Armenia, conducted by the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST) at UCLA. This comprehensive study highlights the program’s significant impact on students, teachers, and communities, analyzing its strengths in fostering academic achievement, leadership development, and emotional well-being.
The evaluation revealed that Teach For Armenia has significantly improved academic performance, particularly in the Armenian Language, where Grade 5 students outperformed their peers in knowledge-based and application-oriented tasks. While older students faced challenges in critical thinking, Grade 10 students showed notable progress, underscoring the program’s ability to strengthen foundational skills. In the classroom, Teach For Armenia teachers excelled in fostering student engagement through group work, real-world connections, and restorative practices, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Teachers also demonstrated a strong ability to tailor instruction to students’ needs, promoting autonomy and collaboration.
Beyond academics, the program has been highly effective in developing student leadership and emotional well-being. Grades 3-6 and 7-11 students showed significant growth in managing emotions, setting goals, and contributing to their communities. Teach For Armenia students expressed confidence in their ability to create change, reflecting the program’s success in nurturing well-rounded leaders. Additionally, the program has made remarkable progress in building safe learning environments where students feel respected and supported in exploring their emotions.
While the program has achieved impressive results, the evaluation also identified areas for growth, such as enhancing critical thinking skills for older students and ensuring consistent implementation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) practices.
Teach For Armenia has profoundly impacted Armenia’s education system, equipping students with the academic, social, and emotional skills they need to thrive. The program prepares students to become thoughtful, capable community leaders by fostering leadership, promoting inclusive classrooms, and addressing educational inequities.
We are proud to partner with Teach For Armenia in this vital work and look forward to continuing to support their mission of expanding educational opportunities for all children.
